Curtis and Lohan have expressed their desire for a sequel for many years, but only recently have serious discussions. Andrew Gunn, the producer of the first film, is on board to produce the sequel, along with former Disney executive Kristin Burr.

Disney has built a franchise around Freaky Friday, with various movies and even a Broadway show. The series is based on the 1972 book by Mary Rogers, with the original adaptation in 1976 starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster.
While Lohan is no longer a teenager, the new script written by Jordan Weiss is rumored to take a more multigenerational approach to the story.
