"I came up with the idea for this book during the first Christmas of the COVID pandemic. I saw my neighbor Betty on the street on Christmas Eve around four o'clock when I was going to collect the mail. I greeted her, saying, 'Hey, Betty! Santa is on his way!' However, instead of being excited, she seemed panicked and replied, 'No, Jamie, no. Just one more sleep, and then Santa will come...I thought about it and realized Betty was right. I apologized to her, acknowledging her understanding of time, as she is too young to grasp it fully. It was at that moment that I went inside and started writing the book...These stories come to me almost effortlessly, as if they are already complete in my mind."

For this children's book, Curtis collaborated with illustrator Laura Cornell once again. Curtis pointed out that despite their different backgrounds, both of them are California girls. She describes their partnership as great, with each of them bringing their unique elements to the table. Curtis contributes an emotional aspect while Cornell adds humor. This, according to Curtis, is their secret sauce. Together, they create books that both parents and children genuinely enjoy. Curtis believes that if a book can make parents laugh and cry, it becomes a favorite that they will repeatedly read with their children.
Curtis expresses her delight and pride in creating stories that resonate with young children. She believes it is crucial for children to relate to and understand the challenges of being human. As we grow up and learn about the complexities of the world, finding joy and happiness becomes more difficult. However, being an adult means finding a balance between the two, and Curtis views writing children's books as a privilege.
