Tamara Chestna, the screenwriter of the book-based film After, will also write the script for Sneakerella. Joining Tamara Chestna are George Gore II and Mindy Stern. The executive producers of this project are Jane Startz (who also worked in the book-based film Ella Enchanted) and Rachel Watanaba-Batton. Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, who was also involved in the book-based film Ramona and Beezus, will serve as the director of Sneakeralla. She is also the co-executive producer.

Deadline's synopsis: El ( Chosen Jacobs) is an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works as a stock boy in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. El hides his artistic talent from his overburdened stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers who constantly stomp on any opportunity that comes his way. When El meets Kira King ( Lexi Underwood), the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King (Salley), sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers. With a little nudge from his best friend and a sprinkle of Fairy Godfather magic, El finds the courage to use his talent to pursue his dream of becoming a ‘legit’ sneaker designer in the industry.
John Salley, the four-time NBA champ, is also a cast member in Sneakerella. Production will start sometime next year.
