Here is Moore's explanation on why she joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2:
I’m only in The Hunger Games because my daughter was reading [them.] I actually bought the books for my son, he’s older than my daughter, and she was reading them. We were on vacation, I had nothing to read, and I picked the copy of this book, and I was like ‘This is amazing. Oh my god, I think there’s a part for me.’ And it might have been the only thing my kids ever cared about that I was in. It was fantastic for them.
Julianne Moore's minimal involvement in the Hunger Games franchise makes it understandable why she would accept the role. Many actors choose to make movies that their kids would enjoy, just like Ryan Reynolds, who starred in Detective Pikachu so he could be a part of a film that his kids would love, as opposed to his usual R-rated projects. Jennifer Garner was also motivated by her children to star in Netflix's book-based film Yes Day, after frequently rejecting their requests during the pandemic. Garner's kids may not watch their mother's movies to avoid seeing her portray sadness or romance, but it's still wonderful that she has started to sign on for more family films, giving her children the option to watch them.
