Actor Matthew Goode will play the character of DCI Carl Morck. Following a traumatic incident that turns Morck's world upside down, the emotionally scarred detective is assigned the task of establishing a cold case unit, known as Department Q, upon his return to work. Initially, the disillusioned cop is content with idling his days away, but eventually, his detective instincts are reawakened, and his new department becomes a haven for a diverse group of individuals, including misfits and mavericks.
Chloe Pirrie ("The Queen's Gambit") will play the role of ambitious prosecutor Merrit Lingard, known for her unyielding determination. Kelly Macdonald has been cast as Dr. Rachel Irving, a therapist assigned with the responsibility of helping officers get back to the front lines. Alexej Manvelov ("Jack Ryan") will play Syrian police officer Akram Salim, who was compelled to seek refuge in Europe and eventually joins the newly established department. Leah Byrne will be taking on the character of Rose, a promising police cadet who experienced a traumatic event and is seeking an opportunity to prove herself within DCI Morck's team.
