The film stars Lily Gladstone, who was awarded Best Actress by the NYFCCC, portraying the character of Mollie Burkhart. Mollie, an Osage woman, becomes entangled in the true story of the Reign of Terror that plagued 1920s Oklahoma, as her marriage to white settler Ernest Burkhart (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) unfolds. The film is based on the bestselling book by David Grann. Scorsese and Eric Roth wrote the screenplay.

Flower Moon won in four categories, including the outstanding cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto, who was commended for his work in both Scorsese's film and the movie Barbie. The Adapted Screenplay award was given to Tony McNamara for Poor Things. Mark Ruffalo also received recognition as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in this film.
Flower Moon, Holdovers, Poor Things, and Barbie all earned spots in the NBR's Top Film list, alongside The Boy and the Heron, Ferrari, The Iron Claw, Maestro, and Oppenheimer. The NBR, consisting of passionate film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, and academics, also revealed their top five international, documentary, and indie films lists. For the individual categories, Anatomy of a Fall and Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie claimed victory in the international and documentary film categories, respectively.
All the winners will be honored at the NBR's prestigious annual awards gala on January 11, 2024, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The ceremony will be hosted by Willie Geist.
