"Funny how time flies, isn't it, Fantasia?" Hudson asks the Golden Globe nominee, while showcasing a photo of the two young singers from their American Idol days. "Do you realize it's been 20 years since we competed on American Idol?"
"Remember the day they tried to put the three of us in the bottom three?" she begins, referring to herself, Hudson, and LaToya London. Up until that point, all three of them had received high praise from the judges. Ultimately, it was Hudson who faced elimination. "That day, we all had the same expression on our faces, like 'Really?'" Barrino recalls, reflecting on the absurdity of the situation. Little did they know that they would go on to achieve incredible success in their respective careers.

With a sense of satisfaction, the actress and talk show host turns the tables and asks Barrino what stands out to her about their time on the reality show. "Hard work," she responds without hesitation. "We put in a tremendous amount of effort. I also remember the strong bonds we forged and the incredible talents we were surrounded by. We were constantly challenging each other to become better. Iron sharpens iron. Despite being away from our families and the early mornings, we persevered because we were all chasing a dream. "Can you believe it?" she asks, with a mix of awe and gratitude. The journey they embarked upon all those years ago has brought them to this moment, where they can reflect on their past achievements and look towards an even brighter future.
Oprah, along with the cast of The Color Purple, has been promoting the film, set to premiere on Christmas Day. Prior to this, Barrino, Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, and director Blitz Bazawule visited The View, where they led the audience in giving a standing ovation to Whoopi Goldberg. Goldberg had made her film debut in the 1985 adaptation of The Color Purple, directed by Steven Spielberg.
"We wouldn't be here without you," Brooks showed her gratitude to Goldberg. Just likeHudson, Goldberg has achieved an EGOT, and like Goldberg, Barrino makes her film debut as Celie, underscoring the connection tied to American Idol season 3.
