"The Wild Robot" had a production budget of $78 million and aims to replicate the enduring success experienced by animated family films in the post-pandemic era, like Pixar's "Elemental" and Illumination's "Migration." Both films leveraged positive audience reception to boost box office earnings following their initial releases. Critics and audiences alike have warmly received "The Wild Robot," has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 'A' grade from CinemaScore.
Here is a statement from Universal's president of domestic distribution, Jim Orr, about the box office results:
“What an incredibly gratifying opening weekend for ‘The Wild Robot.’ We welcomed viewers of all ages, and the audience ratings were exceptional. This hints at a long, fruitful run as we move into the fall.”
The film has also made its international debut, accumulating $18 million abroad, bringing its global earnings to $53 million. The voice cast features Lupita Nyong'o as Roz, a robot stranded on a deserted island who forms a unique friendship with a lost gosling. Other notable voices include Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Mark Hamill, and Catherine O’Hara, who portray the animals that befriend Roz throughout her journey.
