1. Could you give a brief summary about Shamblers: the zombie apocalypse?
Sure, here is the synopsis on the rear cover:
Betrayed by his best friend and left to die at the hands of zombies, Nick Steiner has a vendetta to settle: if he can stay alive.
Being shot by Marcus Gray has given Nick sufficient reason to want revenge; for that alone Marcus deserves to die. Yet Marcus didn’t just shoot Nick: he stole Nick’s woman as well.
Nick has vowed to kill everyone and everything in his way until he gets his girl back and makes Marcus pay.
That’s basically it.
2. How did you get the idea for Shamblers?
I wanted to do a zombie book for a while now. I know the genre has been very popular lately, and I knew if I could do a unique book with zombies, it had great potential. I wanted to focus more on the character relationships within the book than on the zombies themselves because I felt that I could really make the storyline “pop” that way.
3. What is your favorite book adaptation film? And why?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy: it was just so well done and stayed true to the books. I hate when movies totally destroy the original concepts of their written counterparts.
4. What is your favorite scene to write? (Make it as spoiler-free as possible)
I love action scenes, where there are shoot-outs or high-drama between characters.
5. What were the challenges (literary, research, etc) in writing the book?
I honestly didn’t have any challenges with Shamblers. I knew exactly where I wanted to go with it, and I had the plot outlined very well… I actually used the character relationships within the movie Broken Arrow as a basis for how I wanted my characters to react to one another. I wrote and edited it in less than a month!
6. Tell us a little bit about the villain in your book if there is one?
Marcus Gray is a very cunning, devious, and twisted person. He is cold-hearted, and he is willing to do anything to stay alive: this includes back-stabbing his companions. He is very conceited and full of himself. He is so arrogant that he is often blinded to his own mistakes and he is always unwilling to admit if he has done anything wrong. He’s a total scumbag.
7. Do you have any upcoming novels you’d like to talk about and in what genre?
I have a few. I eventually want to finish my Fantasy series, A World Divided, and I have two books in it planned: Encroaching Darkness, and Forged Destinies. I also have a mystery novel I want to write that involves a serial killer, kind of a Silence of the Lambs type of tale. But I don’t really have the specifics to it planned yet.
