In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, portrayed as the backdrop of the novel, Ciara and Oliver cross paths and decide to live together during the lockdown period. However, the upcoming series will not mirror this setting.

Zwerling and Usher join Wan as executive producers for the series, along with Michael Clear, Rob Hackett, and Danielle Bozzone overseeing on behalf of Atomic Monster. Irish author Howard takes on the role of co-executive producer. The series is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Atomic Monster. Wan expressed excitement about working with Karyn and Lisa on this thrilling and seductive adaptation of Catherine's compelling novel.
