Wonka and The Color Purple have managed to break the recent curse that has plagued the musical genre, and their success is definitely good news for Paramount's highly anticipated book-based musical film "Mean Girls" and Universal's much-anticipated Christmas event, book-based musical film "Wicked", set to release in 2024. The romantic-comedy genre has also received a much-needed boost with Sony's edgy holiday entry "Anyone but You", which secured a spot in the top five by earning around $11.5 million over the course of four days, bringing its total domestic earnings to an impressive $27.6 million.
