Author's Writing:- Mr. Wallace spend most of his spare time writing in the evening, while traveling, and at home in Indiana. During the summer, he often wrote outdoors and sat under a favorite tree near his home. The tree would be later called the Ben-Hur Beech. He would finished the final manuscript in purple ink as a tribute to the Christian season of Lent. He then traveled to New York City to give the manuscript to his publisher. On April, Wallace personally presented Joseph Harper of Harper and Brothers his manuscript and he accepted it for publication.
