Eragon is the first book in the four-book series called "Inheritance Cycle". The second book is Eldest, followed by Brisingr, and Inheritance. Together, the series has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
The first book was adapted into a film of the same name in 2006, starring Ed Speleers as Eragon, Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira, Jeremy Irons as Brom, and John Malkovich as Galbatorix. The movie received largely negative reviews from critics but still earned around $250 million globally on a reported $100 million budget. In 2021, fans launched the hashtag #EragonRemake, advocating for a Disney-produced series to better capture the story, citing disappointment with the original film adaptation.
Here is the book synopsis of "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini:
When fifteen-year-old Eragon discovers a smooth, blue stone in the forest, he assumes it’s just a lucky find for a poor farm boy. But the stone soon hatches a dragon, and Eragon realizes he has uncovered a legacy as ancient as the Empire itself.
Suddenly, his quiet life is upended. Armed only with an ancient sword, a fiercely loyal dragon, and the guidance of a wise storyteller, Eragon is thrust into a perilous world of magic, honor, and power—where every decision he makes could either save the Empire or bring it to ruin.
