Second place goes to Universal’s Jurassic World: Rebirth. The Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali-led film delivered a strong third weekend, dropping just 42% to earn $23.4 million over three days — the best third-weekend hold of any Jurassic World installment to date. For comparison, 2015’s Jurassic World saw a 49% drop in its third weekend.
The 3rd spot on the box office goes to the book-inspired sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer with $13 million opening weekend. Even with some estimates putting the debut closer to $12 million, it marks the lowest opening for the franchise. The reboot arrived 27 years after the last theatrical sequel. Audience reception was lukewarm. Only 43% gave a “definite recommend,” and turnout was evenly split between men and women. The demo breakdown: men over 25 (36%), women over 25 (30%), women under 25 (20%), and men under 25 (14%). A majority of the audience (61%) fell within the 18–34 age range. Geographically, the film performed evenly across regions, with the South slightly outperforming. The AMC Grove in Los Angeles led individual theater grosses with $34,000 through Saturday.
