The film release is also reportedly playing like a family-friendly hit overseas, even slightly cutting into the domestic momentum of Hoppers, which came in at $18M in its third weekend after earlier projections in the $20M–$21M range.
Internationally, the film pulled in an estimated $60.4M across 82 markets, covering about 90% of its offshore rollout. While the Project Hail Mary had clear appeal in the U.S., its global draw came from something broader. Notably, this marks Gosling’s second astronaut-themed film following First Man, which underperformed with $44.9M domestically and $105.7M worldwide. This time, however, the marketing leaned less on space travel and more on an everyman thrust into extraordinary circumstances—combined with Gosling’s natural charm.
Audience reception has been strong across the globe, mirroring the U.S. response, where PostTrak reports an 83% “definite recommend.” That kind of positive word of mouth is acting as rocket fuel for the film’s continued success.
