Blink49 Studios To Adapt Eliza Reid, The Former First Lady Of Iceland, Novel Into A TV Crime Drama

Blink49 Studios has seized the rights to adapt Death on the Island into a TV Series. The novel was written by Eliza Reid, who was the former first lady of Iceland. The book is her debut novel. Canadian-Icelandic author Eliza Reid served as Iceland’s First Lady from 2016 to 2024, following the election of her husband, former President Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson. Prior to her public role, Reid worked as a magazine journalist and freelance writer.

Fifth Season, Icelandic co-producer Truenorth, and screenwriter Lynne Kamm (Plan B) are all involved in the TV project that will be a six-part series.

Here is a Eliza Reid's statement about the announcement of the TV adaptation:

“I’m incredibly excited to see my debut novel come to life on the small screen. Death on the Island brings together my love of diplomatic intrigue, mystery, and my adopted home, Iceland. I’m thrilled to share this world, and looking forward to it resonating with viewers around the world.”

Death on the Island was published in Canada by Simon & Schuster on April 29. It will be released in the U.S. by Sourcebooks on May 13, and in the UK on June 5 under the title Death of a Diplomat. The book debuted as a bestseller in Iceland upon its March release.
