A sequel to the book-inspired, Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" may soon be in development at Bridge7, a newly-established production company founded by producer Swati Shetty and former CAA agent Grant Kessman. They acquired the rights to both a film sequel and a television adaptation through a deal with Celador, the U.K.-based company that co-produced the original film alongside Film4.
Here is a statement from Shetty and Kessman about the potential project:
“Some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is undoubtedly one of them. Its narrative is universal, cutting across cultural and geographical lines and it embodies the kind of stories we love — ones that bridge entertainment with profound human experiences. What makes ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ extraordinary is not only its cinematic brilliance — spanning storytelling, music and its remarkable accolades, but also how it brought together talent from across the world to make a global winning team.”
2008's Slumdog Millionaire was directed by Danny Boyle. It won 7 BAFTA Awards, 4 Golden Globes, and 8 Academy Awards including best picture and director. It stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto. The film is inspired by a novel (original publishing title was "Q & A") written by Vikas Swarup.
Here is Amazon synopsis of Slumdog Millionaire by Vikas Swarup:
Arrested for unbelievably answering all twelve questions on the Indian game show, "Who Will Win a Billion?" semi-literate waiter Ram Mohammad Thomas explains to his lawyer how he knew the answers due to events in his personal life.
