Connie marks the third Godfather novel officially sanctioned by the Puzo estate and the first in the franchise to be written by a woman.
Here is author Adriana Trigiani's statement about the new novel:
“a story about a woman determined to carve out her own identity in a world that has already decided who she is and how she should be treated. People underestimated Don Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone at their peril. The same will be true for Connie Corleone.”
Paramount Pictures, the studio behind The Godfather films, continues to hold the franchise’s film rights, though no additional details about the project have been released at this time.
Mario Puzo, whose bestselling 1969 novel The Godfather inspired the iconic film series, passed away in 1999. Since then, his estate has been involved in legal disputes with Paramount over control of the Corleone characters and related rights. In 2012, Paramount sued to stop the publication of Ed Falco’s novel The Family Corleone. After the Puzo estate filed a countersuit, both parties ultimately reached a settlement allowing the estate to continue developing new book projects while Paramount retained the film rights.
According to Random House, the Mario Puzo estate approached Trigiani after reading a Substack essay she wrote discussing how little attention had been given to the women of the Corleone family.
Here is the late Mario Puzo's son( and a literary executor) Anthony Puzo's statement about finding Trigiani for the book project:
“We had been searching for someone who could reimagine the story through a fresh lens. Adriana was fascinated when I shared that the character of Vito Corleone—famously portrayed by Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro—was actually inspired by my grandmother. We spoke about how the women in both of our families were the true forces behind the scenes. Adriana’s vision for Connie’s story completely impressed us, and we’re thrilled to have her involved.”
The new novel, Connie, is set to be release in fall 2027.
