Here is an exclusive, Novelpro Junkie interview from the author herself on how she discovered that her debut novel was chosen on Sunnie Reads:
Question 1: Beth Is Dead is the inaugural selection for Hello Sunshine’s new Sunnie Reads Book Club. What was your immediate reaction when you got that call?
Total shock. I was driving when I saw the email (at a stoplight, of course), and I had to pull over and call my mom. Early in my publishing journey, my family asked me what my “super wild, pie in the sky” goal for the book would be, and I said, “I’d love to be in Reese Witherspoon’s book club, but that’ll never happen.” I really couldn’t believe it.
Question 2 : Beth Is Dead is the very first selection for Hello Sunshine’s new Sunnie Reads Book Club. What does it mean to help set the tone for an entirely new reading community?
It means the world. Hello Sunshine shared data revealing that reading is now one of the top five leisure activities for Gen Z women, and I think that’s largely due to communities like Sunnie Reads that turn reading into a social activity instead of a solitary pursuit. I’m so honored to be a part of that.
Question 3: Reese Witherspoon’s book clubs often spark huge conversations online. What conversations do you hope readers will be having after finishing the book?
I hope readers who aren’t familiar with “Little Women” will be inspired to dive into the literary classic or at least watch one of the fantastic movie adaptations. And I hope everyone will have fun discussing aspects of the March sisters that we don’t often consider—like Beth’s passion and bravery.
Question 4: If you could say one thing directly to Reese Witherspoon and the Sunnie Reads community, what would it be?
Thank you Not only for selecting “Beth Is Dead” but for launching a community that I would’ve LOVED as a teen.
